Monastery mill

The monastery mill is a listed building formerly used as a water mill in the city of Quedlinburg in Saxony-Anhalt .

It is located southwest of the Quedlinburger Schloßberg at the address Mühlenstraße 26 . The building is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is listed in the Quedlinburg Monument Register. The Mühlgraben runs through the property .

Architecture and history

The monastery mill was mentioned in a document as early as 1280 and at that time it was owned by the Wiperti monastery . The oldest part of the mill complex is the old two-storey mill building made of half-timbered and quarry stone . It bears a monastery coat of arms dated 1627. A half-timbered house adjoins the east side. Like a side wing, it was modernized around 1900. At the Mühlgraben there is a wheel house in which the Zuppinger water wheel is located. It has a diameter of seven meters and is medium-sized .

The property also includes an industrial building built in 1889 with a chimney, grinding building and storage facility.

The site is surrounded by a brick wall, the posts of which are highlighted.
