Knights of Saint Mulumba

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Order of the Knights of Saint Mulumba (short form: Knights of Saint Mulumba , abbreviation: KSM, German  Order of the Knights of Saint Mulumba ) is a Roman Catholic lay order in Nigeria . It was founded in 1953 and is a member of the International Alliance of Catholic Knights . The brotherhood , organized as an ecclesiastical association of believers , has over 20,000 men and women.

History and goals

The founders of the order saw their foundation stone and inspiration in the past of the crusaders . They see the characteristics of the Christian knights, applied to today's world, confirmed to the same extent. However, it is not an order of knights recognized by the Holy See . The order was founded on June 14, 1953 by Pastor Abraham Anselm Isidahome Ojefua CSsR in Onitsha as an "Association of Believers". The founding fathers used the brotherhood of the Columbus Knights as a model , which was already very popular with Afro-Americans in the USA . On June 24, 1978, a female branch was installed with the Ladies of Saint Mulumba (LSM). Since 2008 there is also a religious department in Cameroon . The goals of the association are based on two pillars: 1. The order endeavors to avert damage to the church caused by secret societies and to counteract the influence they have exerted on Christians. And second, they want to unite Catholic Christians, so they practice interreligious dialogue and promote cooperation with the clergy .

Namesake

He was brutally killed on May 30, 1886 and is one of 22 Catholic, 45 Ugandan martyrs . The 22 Catholic martyrs were in 1920 by Pope Benedict XV. beatified and during the Second Vatican Council in 1964 by Pope Paul VI. canonized .

Organization and membership

Members of the order can become practicing Catholic men and women regardless of their education or profession.
