The tubers fire herb ( phlomoides tuberosa , Syn. : Phlomis tuberosa L. ) is a plant of the genus phlomoides in the family of Labiatae (Lamiaceae). Recently, this type is not the genus phlomis ( Phlomis expected).

description

The tuber brand herb is a perennial herbaceous plant that forms root tubers and reaches heights of 60 to 150 centimeters. The stems are erect, they are simple or have upper branches. The basal leaves form a rosette, they are long stalked. The blade of the lower leaves is oblong-egg-shaped to triangular, at the base they are heart-shaped or arrow-shaped. The leaf margin is roughly serrated; the upper side of the leaf is wrinkled and hairy.

The Scheinquirle are profuse. The flowers are 17 to 20 mm long and light red-purple. The upper lip of the crown is more or less straight; the lower lip is drawn in three lobes and dark red. The calyx is five-pronged with outwardly curved and ciliate teeth. The partial fruits are hairy at the tip.

The flowering period extends from May to July.

The chromosome number is 2n = 22.

Occurrence

The species occurs in warm to temperate Central, Eastern Europe and Western Asia to Eastern Siberia in dry forests, dry shrubbery fringes and steppes up to altitudes of 2300 meters. It thrives in Central Europe in societies of the Geranion sanguinei association, but also in those of the Quercetalia pubescentis or Festucetalia valesiacae orders.

In Austria, the tuberous brand herb occurs very rarely in the Pannonian area of the federal states of Northern Burgenland and Lower Austria. The species is considered endangered. In Germany the species occurred earlier near Magdeburg.

use

The bulbous smut is rarely used as an ornamental plant for perennial beds.
