The Knossos Palace is a ferry of the Greek Minoan Lines . The ship is primarily used on the Piraeus - Heraklion route and is also used as a cruise ship in the autumn and winter months . The ship is named after the Minoan palace of Knossos .

history

The Knossos Palace was laid down on June 28, 1999 at the Fincantieri shipyard in Genoa. The launch took place on January 31, 2000. On November 25, 2000 she was handed over to the owner. The christening took place on November 30, 2000 in the home port of Heraklion .

incident

In 2004 there was a fire on the car deck of the ship on board. After the fire, the ship was initially decommissioned. The repair could not begin until October 2006 and was completed on November 1, 2006.

Machine system and drive

With a cruising speed of 29 knots , the ship is one of the fastest ferries in the world. It is driven by four Wärtsilä 16V46C diesel engines that act on two variable pitch propellers via a gearbox and shaft system . The ship also has four transverse thrusters to improve maneuverability when berthing and casting off. The ship's engines have a total output of 67,200 kW.

Equipment and on-board facilities

There are nine cabin classes. All cabins have a toilet and shower, and many have a TV. The cabins are two to four-bed cabins. Luxury cabins have one or two beds. The ship has a total of 231 beds in 1st class and 758 beds in 2nd class. There is a special area on deck for pets.
