The Knudshoved was a railway ferry from Scandlines Danmark A / S , which had been in service on the Vogelfluglinie with interruptions since 1964 . Other operations took place on the Rostock - Gedser line, among others .
history
The ferry was delivered to the DSB maritime service on March 15, 1961 from the Helsingør shipyard with hull number 352. The ship was used as a car ferry on the Halsskov - Knudshoved line and as a train ferry between Korsør and Nyborg . In the winter of 1963/1964, the ship was rebuilt and in 1964 started the scheduled service between the ferry station Puttgarden and Rødby Færge . Due to its not very elegant shape, the ship was not very popular with passengers, but it was suitable for ice rides.
Further conversions took place in 1978, 1985 and 1993. In another conversion in 1994, a special bow gate was installed, which enabled the ship to use both conventional ferry bed systems and Ro-Ro ferry bed systems.
The last passenger trip took place in November 1997 on the Halsskov – Knudshoved line. Scandlines replaced the ship with the Lodbrog ferry and sold it for dismantling. For this purpose, the ship was renamed Knud and set out on a journey to Alang on December 24, 1997 . In 1998 the ship was scrapped.
Sister ship
The Sprogø was the identical sister ship of the Knudshoved and was also sold to Alang for scrapping in 2004.
