The St. Konradihaus Foundation (also called St. Konradihaus ) is an independent youth welfare organization with its headquarters in Schelklingen with a boarding school and a private school with special needs .

To expand the living options in the core area, external residential groups were built in the vicinity and a residential building in Justingen . The foundation also operates a youth hostel for vocational students from the vocational school in Ehingen, a branch of the Joann Baptist Sproll School in Ehingen (Danube) , a training restaurant and a village shop in the center of Schelklingen .

founding

Today's St. Konradihaus was founded as a "rescue facility for older Catholic boys" under the patronage of Konrad von Konstanz and the care of the Bishop of Rottenburg Wilhelm von Reiser in 1880. The character should be that of a purely private institution , arising from Christian love and based on a Catholic-Church foundation. The pupils were looked after by a householder and the merciful sisters of St. Vincent von Paul until 1981 .

concept

The purpose of today's St. Konradihaus is the qualified school-professional development, as well as co- educational special educational support of children and adolescents, who are brought up in a place other than in the original family, regardless of their social origin, mainly due to a deficient socialization .

Joann Baptist Sproll School

The private Werkrealschule and vocational school , with 18th grade, is certified with additional support classes as a special educational and advisory center for emotional and social development (ESA).

Boarding school residents of the youth welfare facility can also attend secondary regular schools in the surrounding area, depending on their school performance level , or complete vocational training in the surrounding training companies. They continue to receive socio-educational support.

degrees

Depending on the school branch, after the 9th grade , the boarding school students obtain the state-recognized secondary school leaving certificate or the qualification from the “Special Education and Advice Center” (SBBZ) and, when attending the in-house vocational school, state-recognized vocational training in one of the eight occupations offered, for example as a farmer , Cook, baker, precision mechanic, building and object coaters, painters and varnishers as well as carpenters. Vocational school students with special needs can complete five specialized training courses with special educational support.

criticism

According to the Schwäbische Zeitung , boarding school residents of the St. Konradihaus are said to have been physically and sexually abused by a former director, who now lives as a retired Catholic pastor in the Allgäu , in the 1950s . A final clarification of the now statute-barred legal case has not yet been possible.

Attempted murder by boarding school residents

The District Court of Ulm has in 2019 the St. Konradihaus house for attempted murder in three cases, aggravated arson and aggravated assault, sentenced two boarding members to prison terms of between three and four and a half years. They tried to break into an apartment building , then started a fire and accepted that the residents who were still there could have been killed by the arson .

Boarding school costs

Boarding school education costs up to 54,000 euros per year. The additional costs for special educational support measures must also be taken into account. If the costs are not fully covered by a cost unit , wealthy parents can be charged a contribution of up to EUR 2,438 per month for a full inpatient stay.

patronage

Roland Bless , formerly a member of the German pop band Pur , has been the patron of the St. Konradihaus since 2017 .
