Konstantin Konstantinovich Khrenov ( Russian Константин Константинович Хренов * February 13 . Jul / 25. February  1894 greg. In Borovsk , Russian Empire ; † 12. October 1984 in Haisyn , Ukrainian SSR ) was a Russian Metallurg , welding pioneer and university teachers .

Life

Khrenov studied at the St. Petersburg (then Leningrad ) Electrical -Institut (LETI) electrochemistry with completion in 1918. 1921 to 1925 he was a lecturer at the Department of General Chemistry of the LETI.

1928–1947 taught Chrenov at the Moscow Electromechanical Institute of Railway Engineers . In addition, he headed the welding chair at the Moscow University of Technology from 1933 to 1946 . He developed innovative welding processes, devices for power supply, for electrode coating as well as diffusion welding and plasma cutting . In particular, he invented the underwater welding and cutting of metals , which he was the first to demonstrate in 1932 with successful tests on the Black Sea . As early as 1936–1938, underwater welding was practically used for salvaging a sunken ship in the Black Sea and for repairing ships and bridges (and increasingly during the German-Soviet War ). In 1940 Chrenow received his doctorate in technical sciences .

After the war, Chrenow became a member of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences in 1945 , of which he became a member of the Presidium in 1953. He worked at the Institute for Electric Welding (1945–1948 and again from 1963 until retirement), at the Institute for Structural Analysis (1948–1952) and finally at the Institute for Electrical Engineering of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. 1947-1958 he taught as a professor at the Kiev Polytechnic Institute (KPI) . In 1953 he became a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR .
