history

Origin of the place name Kopstal

The place name Kopstal has its origin in the old Moselle-Franconian language . Koppel meant pasture and arable land. The ending "scht" meant sheath or dividing line. In earlier times the Mamer river was the border between the parishes of Steinsel and Kehlen . Possibly that is why the place was called Koppelscheid in Old Franconia . In the long run it became popularly "Koppelscht" and at some point, out of convenience, "Koplëscht".

Origin of the place name Bridel

Bridel comes from the Latin Praedium ("Hof") and Praediolum ("Höflein"). Praedium means "agricultural buildings" and "real estate". The diminutive Praediolum stands for "small farm estate". The historical researchers R. Blum and Henri Blackes assume that today's Rodenhof was built on the foundations of a Roman building. Roman coins have been found near the courtyard. The name Praediolum carried over to the surrounding lands. Over time, the name developed into "Bridel".

Historical finds

In Kopstal, remains of Roman bricks and crockery debris were found in the left valley exit next to Merscher Straße . During expansion work on various streets in Bridel, pottery remains, roof tiles and coins were repeatedly found. Clay grave urns were uncovered in a former sand pit in the former Strassener Straße. It can be assumed that people lived not too far away and were buried there after their death.

politics

On January 1, 2010, Mayor Guy Linster gave up his post to the 46-year-old lawyer and previous aldermen Romain Adam (är Equipe). Linster, however, retained his seat on the council of lay judges.
