Habscht is a municipality in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and belongs to the canton of Capellen .

The municipality consists of the localities

- Leesbach ,
- Roodt ,
- Simmering ,
- Simmerfarm ,
- Simmerschmelz .
In addition, well-known destinations such as Gaichel (located directly on the border with Belgium on the road to Arlon ), the Felleschmillen mill (on the Mühlenbach between Gaichel and Eischen) and Kreuzerbuch ( Kräizerbuch ) are included.
history
The community traces its historical origins back to the Countess Ermesinde . The legal dispute over the forest rights she had granted between Eischen and Clairefontaine Abbey dragged on for 514 years. Hobscheid belonged to the parish of Elwingen since the early Middle Ages , while Eischen belonged to the parish of Arlon . Hobscheid came to Arlon through the French Revolution . The third division of Luxembourg on August 19, 1839 made Eischen a border village.
In 1874, a section of the Attert line with a train station in Eischen up to the then unfinished tunnel in “Uechtlach” was put into operation. The construction work on the 690 m long tunnel of the Prince Heinrich Railway was not finished until July 7, 1879. The Pétange - Ettelbrück railway was inaugurated on April 17th, 1880 and put into operation on the 20th of the same month. In 1969 the Attert line was shut down. On May 12, 1989, the cycle path was opened on the disused railway line.
Fusion with simmers
In a referendum, 59.73% of the Hobscheiders voted for a merger with the municipality of Simmern . In the run-up to the referendum, 58.4% of the residents in Simmern were in favor of a merger. In 2018 both communities merged to form "Gemeng Habscht".
