Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? ( Japanese こ れ は ゾ ン ビ で す か? ), German "Is that a zombie?", also as Koreha Zombie Desuka? Romanized or officially abbreviated as Korezom ( こ れ ゾ ン ), is a series of light novels written by Shin'ichi Kimura , with illustrations by Kobuichi and Muririn.
The first volume in the series, which is still ongoing, was released in January 2009 by Fujimi Shobo . The novel series tells the story of the student Ayumu, who was killed by a serial killer and resuscitated as a zombie by the necromancer Eucliwood . Since then, he has been pursuing the goal of rendering his killer harmless, but at the same time has to deal with the side effects of being a zombie and the girls who populate his apartment.
Based on the light novel series, adaptations of the same name were created as a manga and anime television series.

prehistory
The history of the events in the series is only explained in flashbacks. It begins at an unspecified time in the past, when Ayumu Aikawa is still a normal student and a serial killer is up to mischief in the city. During this time Ayumu meets the necromancer Eucliwood Hellscythe, who is sitting in front of a shop, with whom he wants to start a conversation. But he very quickly discovers that Yū, as Eucliwood is abbreviated, does not speak and always writes down her answers on a notepad. A certain friendship builds up between the two, but both have to go their separate ways soon. When Ayumu was still out in the city late in the evening despite the warnings, he noticed screams from a house in the neighborhood. Although immediately alarmed and seized by fear, he nevertheless enters the house and is stabbed from behind with a sword.
When he comes to, he is in a cemetery, where Yū explains to him that he has died. However, she revived him as a zombie and from now on he must be her servant. Accordingly, she quartered with him and quite relentlessly made demands, still using her notepad. At the same time, Ayumu decides to go in search of his murderer, which, however, turns out to be difficult because he has not seen him.

- Ayumu Aikawa ( 相 川 歩 , Aikawa Ayumu )
- Even after his transformation into a zombie , Ayumu can continue his normal life as a high school student because he has not changed externally. However, the fact that he is now a zombie has numerous side effects. So it is almost immortal and comes back together by itself, even if it has broken numerous bones or even parts of its body have been severed. In addition, it can utilize the full potential of the human body and is therefore much stronger than other people. Only his bones are rather dilapidated, which is why there are always broken bones during actions that require a lot of strength. Despite his supposed immortality, he is able to feel pain, but it subsides after a short time. Another disadvantage is the fact that it dries out quickly when the sun is shining and can therefore actually only move outside on cloudy, rainy days without having to hide under a sunshade or umbrella. But he is also immune to magic, whereby he can even absorb it and then use it himself, which turns out to be a surprise, especially for Haruna, with rather unpleasant consequences for her.
- Eucliwood Hellscythe ( ユ ー ク リ ウ ッ ド ・ ヘ ル サ イ ズ , Yūkuriuddo Herusaizu )
- Eucliwood, known as Yū for short, is a necromancer whose full potential of abilities is hidden. She is mostly introverted , which is further supported by her constant silence. She doesn't speak because otherwise she would do magic. Instead, she makes herself noticed with written notes in which she uses harsh expressions or makes urgent demands. After Ayumu's resuscitation, she moves into his apartment and spends most of the time sitting quietly at the kotatsu in the living room and watching what is going on . Although she does not speak, she appears again and again in the ideas of Ayumu as his secret admirer, who would take care of her big brother there in a cute undertone as Imōto (little sister), but this contradicts her actual actions.
- Haruna ( ハ ル ナ )
- Haruna is a self-declared Masō Shōjo (an allusion to Mahō Shōjo ) and is said to come from the world of magic. In fact, she can transform into something similar to a Magical Girl, but uses a chainsaw as a weapon, which she calls Mystletainn . So she was originally on the hunt for demons, which she calls Megalos . As a further analogy to the Magical Girl, she also uses numerous special skills or attack techniques, which, however, usually do not do justice to their wording. For example, the Mystletainn Kick is not an attack with the foot, but with a chainsaw, something that even dying opponents complain about. In addition, it can be described as quite inconsiderate, as it z. B. Ayumu's death - had it not been a zombie - would have simply accepted it and, since it was in the way, simply severed it as well. In the later course of the plot she also moves into Ayumu's apartment and often prepares breakfast, which basically only consists of eggs, the only ingredient she can handle. However, this does not prevent Haruna from presenting himself as a self-contained intelligence beast.
- Seraphim ( セ ラ フ ィ ム , Serafimu )
- Seraphim just Sera is a vampire - Ninja , which is very concerned about their skills and in dealing with the Katana is trained. However, it does not behave like a servant, has a sharp tongue and referred Ayumu repeated as Kuso mushi ( クソ虫 , dt. "Shit insect", within the meaning of least significant ). As a servant, she feels it is necessary to also live with Ayumu, where she appears like a ghost in all possible places in the house on unfavorable occasions.

The light novel series Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? is written by Shin'ichi Kimura and is illustrated by the artists Kobuichi and Muririn. Adaptations
radio play
Based on the novel series, a radio play was created that was published by Marine Entertainment on December 30, 2009. It was published in a regular and a limited edition, of which the first edition was provided with various extras, such as a poster, a booklet written by the author Shin'ichi Kimura and a phone card that had been provided with illustrations by Kobuichi and Muririn.
The radio play itself consists of four individual pieces spoken by Kaoru Mizuhara (Haruna), Takuma Terashima (Ayumu), Yukari Tamura (Eucliwood), Shizuka Itō (Seraphim), Mamiko Noto (Tomonori) and Shin'ya Takahashi (Orito) .
Manga
There are several manga adaptations of the light novel in Dragon Age magazine, also published by Fujimi Shobō . First ran from issue 2/2010 from January 9, 2010 to issue 12/2013 from November 9, 2013 a series following the plot as a template, drawn by Sacchie ( さ っ ち , Satchi ). In addition, Kadokawa Shoten's Comp-Ace magazine has been running since issue 12/2010 on November 9, 2010 Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? Hai, Anata no Yome Desu. ( こ れ は ゾ ン ビ で す か? い い え 、 っ て か コ レ 誰!? ) Drawn by Satoru Matsubayashi. The final chapter, however, appeared in Shōnen Ace 4/2012 from February 25, 2012. The anthology was published on March 26, 2012, ISBN 978-4-04-120161-9 .

Anime
Also following the template, the animation studio Studio Deen , directed by Takaomi Kanasaki, created the anime television series of the same name Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? . Kanasaki was also responsible for drafting the script. The animation was managed by Hirofumi Morimoto and Yūko Yahiro . The artistic director had Kei Ichikura held. Shinobu Tagashira led the character design based on the drawings of the novel series and was also responsible for creating the opening and closing credits as director of the animation. The music for the series was composed and arranged by Shinji Kakijima , who was hired on behalf of Flying Dog.
The studio had some of the tasks done by other contractors. Umidori, for example, was responsible for creating the 3D graphics and Studio Easter for the background graphics. Several other studios were also involved in the animation. Such was the studio Liberty responsible for creating keyframes, were involved while numerous other studios in the creation of the In-Between animations.
The twelve-episode series began airing after midnight on January 11, 2011 (and thus on the previous television day ) on TV Saitama . Within the next hour, the broadcast also began on GBS , Chiba TV and Sun TV . The following day the series aired on KBS , Mie Television and Tokyo MX . The channels TV Kangawa , TVQ Kyushu , Smile Channel and AT-X followed within the next week . Outside of Japan, Crunchyroll streamed the series with English subtitles . The last episode of the first season first aired on March 31, 2011. The late date, actually broadcast weekly series, is explained by the Tōhoku earthquake , as a result of which the broadcast of the 10th episode was delayed.
An additional thirteenth episode was planned for the summer of 2011 as the original video animation , which was published on June 10, 2011 together with the eighth edition of the light novel series.
The second season Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? of the Dead ( こ れ は ゾ ン ビ で す か? オ ブ ・ ザ ・ デ ッ ド , Kore wa Zombi Desu ka? obu za Deddo ) ran from April 5 to June 7, 2012 after midnight on Tokyo MX and up to a week offset on TVQ Kyushu, Sun TV, GBS, Mie TV, BS11, Chiba TV, TV Saitama, TV Kanagawa and AT-X. Ten episodes of the season ran on television, one episode 0 was included in the 10th volume of novels and an 11th episode in the sixth manga volume.
synchronization
A special feature of the synchronization of the series is that Eucliwood Hellscythe speaks to Ayumu for the first time in episode 11. Since Ayumu does not know her real voice, he imagines it, but with deviations, whereby different voice actors are used in the individual episodes.

The opening credits of the first season were written by the title Ma-Ka-Se-Te Tonight ( 魔 ・ カ ・ セ ・ テ Tonight , pronounced "Rely-on-me- tonight ": "Turn into a demon tonight " ), which was interpreted by Iori Nomizu, the spokeswoman for Haruna. The credits used the title Kizuite Zombie-sama, Watashi wa Classmate Desu ( 気 づ い て ゾ ン ビ さ ま 、 私 は ク ラ ス メ イ ト で す , dt. "Notice it, Mr. Zombie: I'm your classmate"). It was interpreted by Rie Yamaguchi together with Manzo . Manzo also took on the composition and arrangement of both pieces, which were released as singles on February 9, 2011 under the Flying Dog label .
The second season used *** Passionato ( *** パ シ ョ ナ ー ト , *** Pashonāto ) sung by Iori Nomizu in the opening credits and Koi no Beginner Nandesu (T_T) ( 恋 の ビ ギ ナ ー な ん で す (T_T) ) sung by Rie Yamaguchi in the credits . Both were composed and arranged by manzo and the opening credits were also written by him, while the text for the credits was written by Rie Yamaguchi himself. Both tracks were released on April 25, 2012 as a single on Flying Dog.
