Kottaun is a village and a cadastral municipality in the municipality of Geras in the Lower Austrian Waldviertel.

The anger village of Kottaun is two kilometers north of Geras.

history

The place was mentioned for the first time in 1240 in Friedrich II's umbrella letter , which refers to the foundation of the Geras Monastery and the Pernegg Monastery . Half of the village of Kottaun was bequeathed to the Geras monastery. Kottaun was also the seat of a noble family whose castle, according to legend, stood on the site of today's parish hall (No. 6), where you can still see the remains of a ruined wall and a piece of a moat.
