Koulan Karki (Tanout)

Koulan Karki (also: Koulan-Karki ) is a village in the municipality of Tanout in Niger .

The village, run by a traditional chief (chef traditionnel) , is located in the Damergou countryside , about 36 kilometers south of the city center of Tanout, the capital of the Tanout department in the Zinder region . The larger villages in the vicinity of Koulan Karki include Sabon Kafi, around 9 kilometers away, in the west, and Dan Kamsa, around 12 kilometers away, in the northwest.

The German Africa explorer Heinrich Barth , who traveled to Damergou in 1851, described the then rich cornfields of Koulan Karki ("Kulakérki") and Bani Walki ("Banuélki"), which could provide more than just the local population.

At the 2012 census, Koulan Karki had 697 residents who lived in 118 households. At the 2001 census, the population was 519 in 102 households, and at the 1988 census, the population was 301 in 83 households.
