Location of Bani Walki in Niger

Bani Walki (also: Baniwalki ) is a village in the municipality of Tanout in Niger .

The village, run by a traditional chief (chef traditionnel) , is located in the Damergou countryside , around 28 kilometers southeast of the city center of Tanout, the capital of the Tanout department in the Zinder region . Djadjidouna in the north, about 10 kilometers away, is one of the larger villages in the vicinity of Bani Walki .

The village is the seat of the leader of the Tuareg faction Kel Tamat , who left the high mountains of Aïr at the beginning of the 18th century to settle further south. The German African explorer Heinrich Barth , who traveled to Damergou in 1851, described the then rich cornfields of Bani Walki ("Banuélki") and Koulan Karki ("Kulakérki"), which could provide more than just the local population.

At the 2012 census, Bani Walki had 875 residents who lived in 128 households. At the 2001 census, the population was 681 in 134 households, and at the 1988 census, the population was 405 in 84 households.

At Bani Walki there is the Bani Walki dam , which is used for agricultural purposes .
