Koyuk ( Inupiaq : Quyuk ) is a village in the Nome Census Area in the southeast of the Seward Peninsula in western Alaska . The population was estimated to be 369 in 2016.
Koyuk is located at the mouth of the Koyuk River in Norton Bay in the extreme northeast of Norton Sound . 66 km south is Shaktoolik , almost 100 km west-southwest Golovin and 207 km west-southwest the town of Nome .
92% of the population are of American Indian descent.
The Iditarod dog sled race passes through Koyuk on the way to Nome.
