Krautscheid is a district of the municipality Buchholz (Westerwald) in the district of Neuwied in the northern Rhineland-Palatinate . Until 1974 Krautscheid was an independent municipality.

The village is located in the Niederwesterwald northwest of the main town of Buchholz. The state border with North Rhine-Westphalia runs in the west of the town . Krautscheid is connected to the main town and the Buchholz district of Kölsch-Büllesbach as well as to federal highway 8 via the state road 275 .

history

Krautscheid belonged to the Electorate of Cologne as a sovereign . The place gave its name to the " Honnschaft Krautscheid", which belonged to the parish of Asbach and was under the administration of the Electoral Cologne Office of Altenwied , which was established in the middle of the 13th century . In 1670 Krautscheid, Buchholz, Büllesbach, Dammig, Hammelshahn, Jungsoth, Seifen, Solscheid, Wallroth and Werthenbruch belonged to the Honnschaft, later also Hähnchenhof and Priestersberg. In 1659 the Honschaft Krautscheid had 40 houses and in 1789 87 houses.

The rule of Kurköln ended in 1803 after more than 500 years with the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss . The Electorate of Cologne area in this region was initially the Wied-Runkel assigned and came in 1806 due to the Act of Confederation, the Duchy of Nassau . The Honnschaft Krautscheid was then subordinate to the administration of the Nassau office of Altenwied . After the treaties concluded at the Congress of Vienna , the area was ceded to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1815 .

Krautscheid a municipality in the then newly formed was Kreis Neuwied in Koblenz and the mayor Asbach managed. According to a census from 1885, the community of Krautscheid with its twelve districts had 970 inhabitants who lived in 201 residential buildings.

Krautscheid and its districts were an independent municipality until 1974 and most recently had 1,492 inhabitants. From it and the simultaneously dissolved communities Elsaff (500 inhabitants, Buchholz share) and Griesenbach (355 inhabitants), the local community Buchholz (Westerwald) was newly formed on March 16, 1974. In 1987 Krautscheid had 165 inhabitants.
