The Kreisgymnasium Bad Krozingen (KGBK) is a general high school in the southern Baden spa town of Bad Krozingen . The approximately 740 students, who are accommodated in 30 classes, are taught by around 80 teachers. The school authority is the district of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald .

Location and catchment area

The school building is located on the southern edge of the spa town near the University Heart Center Freiburg-Bad Krozingen .

The students of the KGBK not only come from Bad Krozingen-Kernstadt, but also from numerous surrounding districts and villages from Heitersheim to Ehrenkirchen and Schallstadt.

history

On February 25, 1994, the district council unanimously passed the fundamental decision to set up another two and a half to three-class high school in Bad Krozingen due to the steadily increasing number of students at the high schools in the district. On March 16, 1995, the district council approved the proposed space plan and decided to conduct a limited ideas competition with twelve architects from the area. Furthermore, it was decided to set up the new district high school as a general high school with a natural science and modern language profile. On November 9, 1995, on a recommendation from the established jury, the district council decided to award the planning contract to the architectural firm Harter und Kanzler from Haslach as the first prize winner. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on February 18, 1997; The topping-out ceremony was finally celebrated on January 28, 1998, so that school operations could begin on September 14, 1998.

The official inauguration took place on April 28, 1999.

The district grammar school has grown steadily since then, has exceeded the originally planned three-move, which is why a new extension (the current upper-level building) took place and now has four fully loaded trains in almost all grades.

School profile and language sequence

Like most of the Baden-Württemberg high schools, the grammar school offers a scientific and a linguistic profile. In contrast to the earlier mathematical and scientific or linguistic grammar school, the choice of one of the two profiles no longer means a fundamental setting of the course for the children with effects on their entire educational path up to the Abitur.

There are no differences in grades 5–7, all students are taught the same subjects with the same number of hours. All students start with English as their first foreign language, followed by French as their second foreign language in grade 6.

At the end of class 7, the students choose their profile subject for the next three school years: either Spanish as a third foreign language or NwT ( natural science and technology ). The profile subject is then taught in grades 8–10 as the 5th core subject (in addition to German, mathematics, English and French).

The core subject NwT, which was introduced in grade 8 and grade 9 at the same time in the 2006/2007 school year, is designed to be interdisciplinary.

In the course level, i.e. in grades 11 and 12, the students are again free to choose their subjects within the framework of the registration requirement. Students from the linguistic profile can therefore take a scientific focus, students who attended NwT in grades 8–10 can take their two foreign languages, French and English. Only Spanish is reserved as a course level subject for the participants in the linguistic profile.

Partner schools

The district grammar school has been organizing a student exchange for seventh grade students with its partner school, the Collège Jacques-Prévert in Andrézieux-Bouthéon near Lyon, since 2001 . The German participants live with their French exchange partners and experience the everyday life of a family in France up close.

School sponsorship

For several years now, the St. Michael School in Mathare , Kenya , together with Kibera one of the two largest slums in Nairobi , has been the school's sponsorship school.

Even if attending a state primary school in Kenya is free, children from the slum cannot afford it because the basic equipment with school uniform and learning material as well as the travel costs are too expensive. In order to still give their children a minimum of education, a group of parents around the headmaster Godfrey Wafula Khisa founded a private school in the slum in 2008.

The donations that the district grammar school has generated through campaigns to date were initially used to buy urgently needed basic food for the students in Nairobi. With the financial help of the KGBK, a sack garden was created around the schoolhouse, which regularly supplies vegetables for the school's kitchen and is managed by the students themselves.

With the money that was donated, a separate water connection for the school is to be financed; At the beginning of October 2014, the construction of a cistern to collect rainwater began.

With the help of Labdoo , a non-profit organization that plays laptops that are no longer needed with open source software and donates them to schools in developing countries, the district high school is trying to send some laptops to its sponsor school in Nairobi.

Activities and working groups (AGs)

In addition to the normal lessons, a variety of different activities are offered at the KGBK. A wide range of sports, the problem of the month (math competition for the lower grades), country school stays, the homestay, school parties, theater, the school medical service as well as traffic education and the days of reflection enrich everyday school life.

There are also many different working groups at the KGBK, such as For example: theater, chess, gardening and swimming groups as well as the youth debates group and a school newspaper.

Theater AG

The theater group always takes place on Wednesday afternoons from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and has its own web presence. It is accessible to all levels and students. The theater AG was launched in 2008. So was z. For example, the performance of Friedrich Dürrenmatt'sDie Physiker ” by the theater group in 2010 was very well received in the Badische Zeitung : “ In addition to good acting achievements, directing ideas also contribute to the success of the play, for example when the actors scramble the letters on the wall to complete words like Iran, elementary particles, atomic bomb and other thought-provoking terms ”.

Chess AG

In the chess group of the district high school, its members train in order to take part in regional competitions.

On February 25, 2015, two school teams from the Heitersheim chess club took part in the team championships in Denzlingen. In competition class IV (born in 2002 and younger) the five boys of the KGBK became champions; the team of four in competition class V took 2nd place. Both teams have thus qualified for the Baden championships.

At the 2015 South Baden School Championships, they took first place in WK IV and second in WK V.

Youth debates AG

The Jugend-debattiert-AG is a working group which is supposed to prepare the participating students for the participation in the, in Germany nationwide, student competition in debating, youth debates .

In 2014 a pupil from the district high school won the regional youth debated competition.

KreisRunde - school newspaper

The school newspaper KreisRunde , which was founded at the beginning of the 2016/2017 school year, refers its name to the school name (Kreisgymnasium). It has published three different editions so far (as of December 2018). As soon as a new edition is released for sale, the old one can be viewed free of charge on the school's website. In 2018 the KreisRunde won the "Scoop" award from the Badische Zeitung .

Competitions and Awards

In February 2015, the “KGBK” team, made up of 8th grade students from the district high school, was able to win the “Stock Exchange Simulation Game” advertised by the Sparkasse Staufen-Breisach with the results of the earnings and sustainability evaluation.

Since the school year 2008/2009, the district high school has had the BoriS - Berufswahl-SIEGEL Baden-Württemberg for vocational orientation for pupils.
