The motor ferry Kreuzlingen is the eleventh-built car ferry the ferry Konstanz-Meersburg on Lake Constance . It runs year-round regular service between Konstanz-Staad and Meersburg .

concept

After the Stadtwerke Konstanz 1980, the motor ferry last Meersburg were put into service, they wore the ever-growing volume of traffic and the fact that its fleet was getting on in years, invoice and commissioned on October 2, 1991, the Bodan shipyard in Kressbronn am Bodensee with the construction of a new motor ferry. Stadtwerke Konstanz has been working with the Bodan shipyard since the first ferry was built in 1928. In contrast to earlier new builds, this DM 13.75 million building was not intended to replace an older ferry; the ship concept provided for six ships to be deployed at the same time while the Hegau motor ferry is in reserve.

construction

After a short construction period, the ferry was launched on June 18, 1993 and put into service on July 4, 1993 under the name Kreuzlingen , named after the Swiss town of Kreuzlingen . The design of the Kreuzlingen is quite traditional on the outside, inside it contained an innovation when it was commissioned: The Kreuzlingen was the first ferry from the Bodan shipyard with a diesel-electric drive - four electric motors of 500 kW each. A development that continued in 1996 at Euregia with four electric motors.

After the drive motors of the Kreuzlingen had to be replaced in winter 2004/2005 , an overhaul and renovation was due in winter 2006/2007 in Kressbronn: The entire interior was modernized, the toilet facilities were completely renewed and the motorization adjusted - new electric motors, a new one Cabling and electrical switchgear were installed. Around half a million euros were spent on this.

Renovation 2013/2014

In the shipyard of the Schweizerische Bodenseeschifffahrt (SBS) in Romanshorn, at the end of 2013 / beginning of 2014, the outer skin of the hull and the upper decks were sandblasted and repainted where necessary, the machinery and on-board electrics were serviced, the sanitary facilities were modernized and a waiting room on the lane deck was modernized.

Special occurrences

The Kreuzlingen had an accident on the morning of November 4, 2008 . Due to a driving error by the skipper, she drove violently against the pier in Meersburg in the fog, injuring a passenger. It was not until the beginning of September 2008 that the motor ferry Fontainebleau drove against the Meersburg port facility after a technical defect when entering. Several motorcycles fell into cars and two passengers were injured. Compared to the number of trips across the lake, accidents on the car ferry are extremely rare. Even in winter, the six ferries run a total of 142 times a day on the 4.8-kilometer route.
