Jörg Zimmermann (born May 27, 1933 in Zurich ; † December 10, 1994 in Augsburg ) was a Swiss theater painter , costume and set designer who has become known as the long-time designer of many productions by the artistic director and director August Everding .

life and work

Jörg Zimmermann learned the trade in 1949 in his hometown of Zurich from Teo Otto and Caspar Neher as a painter's apprentice and set designer. At the age of 20 he presented his first independent work at the Hamburger Schauspielhaus . From there he moved to the Berlin Schillertheater and then in 1954 to the Münchner Kammerspiele. He designed around 30 stage sets for Fritz Kortner in the state capital. For 15 years he was head of equipment at the Münchner Kammerspiele , worked as a guest in Berlin , Stuttgart , Hamburg , Cologne , Chicago , Zurich , Düsseldorf , Darmstadt , at the Bayreuth Festival , in Vienna , Salzburg , Paris , Milan , Basel and Stockholm . From 1977 he was responsible for the Zurich theater as head of equipment under Gerhard Klingenberg . From 1983 on, Jörg Zimmermann was a member of the general management and set designer at the Bavarian State Theater in Munich for nine years . In 1992 he moved to the Städtische Bühnen Augsburg with director Peter Baumgardt as equipment manager and chief stage designer.

One of Jörg Zimmermann's most outstanding pieces of equipment, namely that of the musical My Fair Lady , was revived under State Director Ulrich Peters after more than 200 performances since the premiere on March 2, 1984 in the 2009/10 season at Munich's Gärtnerplatztheater (cast: Eliza: Milica Jovanovic , Higgins: Hardy Rudolz , Pickering: Gunter Sonneson , Doolittle: Stefan Sevenich , Mrs. Higgins: Susanne Heyng ).
