Kreuzzug des Weibes (title in Austria: Kreuzzug des Weibes (Die Tragödie des § 144)) is a German silent film from 1926 by Martin Berger . The educational film critical of the judiciary or “tendency film” deals in melodramatic form with the problem of the termination of pregnancy , in particular the criminal liability (according to § 218).

action

A poor worker wants to have her fifth child aborted, but the doctor refuses to do so because it is illegal. The woman then dies trying to have the abortion herself. When the husband is arrested by the prosecutor, the four children are left alone and destitute. After the public prosecutor's fiancé, a teacher, was raped by the porter's son, the doctor does an abortion after all. He confronts the public prosecutor, who then quits his service for reasons of conscience.

reception

The film premiered on October 1, 1926 in Berlin's Alhambra . He was banned from youth several times. Maly Delschaft in particular was able to shine in the role of the fiancé.
