The creeping clove root ( Geum reptans ), also called creeping clove root , glacier clove root or glacier peter's beard , is a type of plant from the genus of clove root ( geum ).
description
The creeping clove root grows as a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 5 to 10 centimeters in the flowering period and up to 30 cm in the fruiting period. It has a strong rhizome and runners up to 1 meter long . The rosette leaves are pinnate with mostly three to five-part leaves. The stem leaves are smaller and pinnate.
The flowers, up to 4 cm in size, are located on a single-flowered inflorescence that continues to grow during flowering. The five petals are yellow. The stylus is not broken down and remains to maturity of the fruit, the fruit has a silky hairy wig, similar Silberwurz and Küchenschelle , hence the name of Peter beard.
The flowering period extends from July to August.
The species has chromosome number 2n = 42.
ecology
The up to 1 m long runners of the creeper are adapted to the easily mobile subsoil of their location; they ensure the vegetative reproduction of the plant, but they also act as soil stabilizers.
The species is recommended for wild plant gardens.
Occurrence
The mostly calciferous plant is a pioneer on moraines , and prefers moist rock debris corridors, Bachalluvionen. Seldom grows directly on rock. In Austria , the creeping avens occurs at the alpine altitude (about 2000 to 3.800 m) in the federal states of Styria, Carinthia, Salzburg, Tyrol and Vorarlberg. In the Allgäu and the surrounding area, it grows between 1850 m at the Hinteren Wildenalpe in Vorarlberg and 2600 m at the Hohe Licht .
The creeping clove root is a specialist in rubble heaps (rubble wanderers). The dead leaf bases, which are preserved and protect the inner, living parts from injury like a cushion, serve as protection against falling rocks. The creeping clove root is a characteristic species of the Oxyrietum digynae in Central Europe and is a national characteristic of the association Androsacion alpinae, which belongs to the class of Thlaspietea rotundifolii.
