The creeping white cup ( Nierembergia repens ) is a species of the genus white cup ( Nierembergia ) in the nightshade family (Solanaceae).

features

The creeping white cup is a perennial plant that reaches heights of 10 to 30 centimeters. It forms aboveground runners. The stem is creeping. The leaves are obovate to broadly elliptical and 2 to 3.5 × 1 to 1.5 centimeters in size. The petiole is 1.2 to 4 inches long. The flowers are formed on the stem nodes, are almost sessile and colored white or purple. The crown is 2.5 to 3 centimeters in diameter. The tube is narrow and 3 to 6 inches long.

Flowering time is from June to September.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 16.

Occurrence

The creeping white cup occurs in the Andes , Uruguay and Argentina in forests and at forest edges. The entire distribution area is in the countries of Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.

use

The creeping white cup is used as an ornamental plant in summer borders, as a pot plant and for borders. It is often cultivated as an annual . This species has been in culture since the second half of the 19th century.
