Krister Horn

Krister Klasson Horn af Åminne (born November 13, 1622 in Vikhus , † May 26, 1692 ibid) was a Swedish field marshal .

Life

Origin and family

Krister was a member of the family of the Swedish barons Horn . His parents were the councilor and heir on Åminne, Freiherr Klas Kristersson Horn (1587–1651) and Sigrid Oxenstierna (1590–1644). The governor general of Estonia Bengt Horn (1623–1678) was his brother.

Horn's first marriage in 1654 was Baroness Görvel Sparre (1632–1659), sister of the diplomat and Grand Marshal of Sweden Per Persson Sparre (1633–1669). In 1662, he married Anna Elisabeth Wrangel af Lindeberg (1640–1687), a daughter of the Swedish general Johann Moritz Wrangel (1616–1665). He left the sons of Klas and Bengt.

Career

Horn was governor of Riga from 1654 to 1657 . During this time he played an important role in the siege of Riga by the Russians . From 1657 to 1659 Governor General of Ingermanland from Ingermanland, Livonia and Kexholms län and Kexholms län. In 1660 he became a councilor and in 1661 first assessor at Svea hovrätt . As a tutor of Charles XI. in 1663 he criticized its customs duties and dissolute lifestyle. He was then a judge in Karelia in 1669 and in the same position in Värmland in 1674 . In 1672 he was promoted to field marshal and in 1674 became governor general in Livonia . During his term of office, which lasted until 1686, he initiated the agrarian reform which is also known as the “estate reduction”. In addition to extensive property ownership in Sweden, he acquired Salisburg and Colberg, both in Livonia, for 3,000 thalers in 1678 . Horn died on his manor and was buried in Uppsala Cathedral.
