Kristiane Verena Backer (born December 13, 1965 in Hamburg ) is a German television presenter , television journalist and author .

job

From 1987 to 1989 Backer volunteered at the private radio station Radio Hamburg . She then worked until 1995 as the first German presenter ( video jockey ) for the then exclusively English-language TV broadcaster MTV Europe . At the same time, she created and hosted the youth program Bravo TV on RTL II from 1993 to 1995 ; In 1993 she presented the ZDF Pop Show once . Backer was awarded the Golden Camera and two Golden Otto's for her television work.

On MTV she moderated a. a. the Coca-Cola Report , the European Top 20 and Awake on the Wild Side . From 1996 she presented the daily cultural program The Ticket on NBC Europe for two years .

After a long break in the television business, Backer has presented several travel programs on Travel Channel ( Reise 2009 , Reise 2010 and Reise 2011 ) and the program Matters of Faith for the international channel QLAR (formerly Ebru TV ) since 2009 . She also moderates business presentations, conferences and galas across Europe.

Private life

Until 1995 Backer was in a relationship with the Pakistani cricketer Imran Khan for several years .

In 1995 the then Protestant converted to Sunni Islam . She does not wear a headscarf, but advocates "that women who cover themselves are not discriminated, but respected". About her conversion to Islam, she published the book From MTV to Mecca - How Islam Changed My Life in May 2009 .

On April 14, 2006, she married the Moroccan television journalist Rachid Jaafar. She is now divorced and lives in London . She works as a homeopath.
