The Kroaubach is a 2.4 km long, left tributary of the Gleiritsch in the Upper Palatinate in Bavaria . The Kroaubach rises in several springs east of the Großer Kulm near Trichenricht and flows over the Fichtental at the Kroau , a district of the municipality of Gleiritsch , past to Bernhof . Here it flows into the Gleiritsch west of the Kohlmühle .
Surname
The water power of the Kroau stream, which rises near Trichenricht, was used to operate the mill in the Kroau . Since the small watercourse was not sufficient to drive the mill wheel, a mill pond was artificially created. This ensured an even supply of water to operate the mill. The grain delivered by the farmers was ground and then delivered to the baker in an exchange process. The flour supplier received the equivalent of his flour in the form of bread. The grinding operation was discontinued in 1970, as larger operations displaced the uneconomical smaller mills, such as the cabbage mill.
