Krzyżna Góra (German Kreuzberg ) is the highest peak (654 m) in the Falkenberge ( Sokole Góry ) in the area of the Landeshuter Ridge ( Rudawy Janowickie ) in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship . Together with the neighboring Forstberg ( Sokolik ), the Kreuzberg forms a striking double formation, which is a landmark of the Hirschberg Valley . Since 1832 there has been a 7 m high iron cross on the top of the Falkenstein rock , which Princess Marianne von Hessen-Homburg , the wife of Prince Wilhelm of Prussia , had erected.

Origin of the name

Cross on the summit

The name of the mountain is derived from the iron cross on the summit.

Location and surroundings

The Kreuzberg is located about 8 km east of Jelenia Góra ( Hirschberg ) and 4 km west of Janowice Wielkie ( Jannowitz ). At the foot of the mountain are the municipalities of Karpniki ( Fischbach ) and Trzcińsko ( Rohrlach ). On the shoulder of the mountain is the Switzerland (Szwajcarka), the oldest mining hut in the Sudetes . Falkenstein Castle (Zamek Sokolec, destroyed in 1476) once stood near the summit, but only small remains of it have survived. The Kreuzberg belongs to the Landeshuter Kamm Landscape Protection Park (Rudawski Park Krajobrazowy).

Paths to the summit

  • A large number of marked hiking trails lead to the Kreuzberg. The municipalities of Trzcińsko ( PKP train station on the Silesian Mountain Railway ), Karpniki and Boberstein (Bobrów), the district of Wojanów ( Schildau ) and the hikers' car park on the Trzcińsko-Karpniki road are good starting points for visiting the mountain .
  • The mountain is also on the European long-distance hiking trail E3 , the summit can be reached in about 20 minutes via a junction.
