Krzysztof Glowacki (* 31 July 1986 in Wałcz ) is a Polish professional boxer and former world champion of the WBO in the cruiserweight division .

Amateur career

Among the amateurs, Głowacki trained at TBT Mińsk Mazowiecki and Orzeł Wałcz, among others . In 2002 he was Polish cadet champion in light heavyweight, in 2003 Polish junior middleweight champion, 2004 Polish junior heavyweight champion, and in 2005 Polish U20 super heavyweight champion. He was also a participant in the European Cadet Championships in 2002 in Ukraine and in the 2005 European Junior Championships in Estonia . At the Polish U20 Championships in 2006, he won silver.

In the adult division he boxed super heavyweight and won silver at the 2007 Polish Championships and bronze in 2008. He won another bronze medal at the EU Championships in Poland in 2008 after he was eliminated in the semifinals against David Price . Against this he was also defeated in the round of 16 at the European Olympic qualification in 2008 in Italy .

Other opponents of his amateur career included Stefan Köber , Kubrat Pulew , Robert Helenius and Islam Timursijew .

Professional career

In October 2008 he switched to the professional camp and won his debut on points against Mariusz Radziszewski. After ten further wins, he beat Levan Jomardashvili (record: 21-3) early in the third round in April 2011. Against Roman Kracík (32-6) he also won the Polish championship in August 2011.

By a TKo win against Felipe Romero (15-5) in August 2012, he received the WBO intercontinental championship. He defended this with a knockout against Matty Askin (14-1), Varol Vekiloglu (20-5) and Thierry Karl (31-5).

On January 31, 2015, he won the WBO European Championship with a unanimous victory over the Swiss Nuri Seferi (36-6).

On August 14, 2015, he defeated the German WBO world champion Marco Huck (38-2) by knockout in the eleventh round in the Prudential Center in Newark and thus became the new title holder. Głowacki won his first title defense on April 16, 2016 in Brooklyn unanimously over twelve rounds against Steve Cunningham (28-7), a former two-time IBF cruiserweight champion. The defending champion also got four knockdowns.

On September 17, 2016, he lost the WBO belt in his second title defense by losing points to the Ukrainian Olympic champion Oleksandr Ussyk , who switched to the professional camp in 2013 and only played his tenth fight.

On June 24, 2017, he defeated the undefeated Hizni Altunkaya (29-0) by technical knockout in the fifth round after Altunkaya had not made it to the sixth round. On May 12, 2018, he also defeated the Colombian Santander Silgado (28-4) by knockout in the first round. Silgado was Denis Lebedev's 2012 WBA challenger .

On November 10, 2018, he defeated the Russian Maxim Vlasov (42-2), who was ranked 6th in the world rankings by Ring Magazine, by unanimous decision on points and became WBO interim world cruiserweight champion. In the fight for the regular WBO world title, he lost on June 15, 2019 in Riga by TKO in the third round against Mairis Briedis (25-1).
