The Kumir flows almost exclusively in the Altai region . Only the last few kilometers before its mouth are in the Altai Republic . The 66 km long Kumir has its source at an altitude of 2000  m in the Korgon ridge in the western Altai Mountains . It flows west first and then turns north. It now flows through a 40 km long deep valley, at the end of which it meets the Ob tributary Charysch near Ust-Kumir . The Kumir drains a catchment area of 1090 km². The Kumir, with its 17 rapids , is a popular destination for rafting tours. Rafting competitions are held regularly on the river.
