Kunda Kamara

Kunda Kamara (also: Camara , born as Kunda Kinteh on August 19, 1947 in Dippa Kunda ; died January 6, 2001 ) was a Gambian politician.

Life

She was born the third child of Landing Kinteh . She attended schools in Serrekunda and Latrikunda before training as a primary school teacher at Gambia College . In 1966 she married Fanding Kamara , who also worked as a teacher. They had five children together. From 1973 to 1992 both worked as teachers in different parts of the country.

At times she was a member of the Banjul City Council . In 1992 she was nominated by President Dawda Jawara to the Gambian parliament , to which she belonged until the coup of Yahya Jammeh in 1994. In and outside parliament, she campaigned for social issues and women's rights.

She died on January 6, 2001 in a car accident on the way home to Kanifing . The accident happened on the South Bank Road between Fula Bantang and Yero Beri Kunda . Members of Parliament Abou Karamba Kassamba and Buba Samura of the United Democratic Party (UDP) and two other people also died in the accident .
