Kunibert Mührel

Kunibert Mührel (born January 6, 1930 in Höflitz ; † April 22, 2017 in Meißen ) was a German agricultural transport technologist, agricultural scientist, professor with teaching position for agricultural engineering at the LPG University of Meißen, department director at the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of the GDR (abbreviation AdL ) and corresponding (1968–1977) or full member of the AdL.

life and work

The son of a small farmer's family, he was born in Höflitz in Bohemia, where he attended elementary school and later middle school in Niemes . After graduating from school, he worked in his parents' business, from mid-1945 until he was expelled to Thüsdorf in the Naumburg district in autumn 1946, he was a farm worker and apprentice in various farms. From 1946 to 1948 he attended the agricultural school in Buttstädt , after which he was a business assistant in Thüsdorf. In 1951 he graduated from the agricultural school in Weimar and then became an agronomist at the Klettstedt machine-tractor station . After attending the special school for MTS in Zossen , he began studying agriculture at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg , which he completed in 1955.

He began his scientific career at the University for Agricultural Production Cooperatives in Meißen, in 1959 he received his doctorate from the Agricultural Faculty of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena with the thesis "Investigations into questions of transport in LPG" (Dr. agr., December 8, 1959) In 1961 he received a lectureship in agricultural engineering at the LPG University of Meissen, where he received his habilitation (Dr. sc. Agr.) On the subject of "Principles for Agricultural Transport" and was appointed professor with a teaching position for agricultural engineering. From 1972 to 1984 Mührel took over the function of a department director at the Institute for Mechanization Potsdam-Bornim of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of the GDR, from 1984 to 1987 he was director of the Institute for Energy and Transport Research Meißen / Rostock of the AdL and from 1987 director of the Meißen department of the Research Center for Mechanization and Energy Use in Agriculture Schlieben-Bornim of the AdL.

His main research interests were the development and transfer of process and mechanization solutions for the transport and handling as well as the storage, conveyance and application of agricultural goods, including the application of organic and mineral fertilizers, combined with specific research sample construction. He presented the results of his research in numerous scientific publications. As a university lecturer, he supervised around 150 diploma students and around 40 doctoral students, and he also prepared over 200 dissertation and post-doctoral reports.
