Kuppritz , in Sorbian Koporcy ? / i , is a village in the east of the Saxon district of Bautzen , which belongs to the municipality of Hochkirch . It is part of the official Sorbian settlement area in Upper Lusatia . Audio file / audio sample

The place is about one kilometer northeast of the community center Hochkirch at 240 meters above sea level. The neighboring towns are Kohlwesa in the east, Neukuppritz in the south and Hochkirch in the east.

After the settlement, Kuppritz is a manor settlement.

history

In 1225 an Otto de Kopericz miles is mentioned, the place itself then as Copperitz in 1419 , until it is called Kuppritz in 1791.

Until April 1, 1936, Kuppritz was an independent rural community with the district Neukuppritz . Then it was incorporated into Hochkirch.

population

For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 240 inhabitants for the place in the 1880s; 202 of them were Sorbs (84%) and 38 were Germans. Since then, the proportion of Sorbian speakers has fallen sharply.

In 1925, Kuppritz had 203 inhabitants. In the data available for the 1990s, the Neukuppritz settlement is counted separately. Since then it has kept around 35 and the main town of Kuppritz around 85 inhabitants.

Most of the believing population is Evangelical Lutheran . The place is parish to Hochkirch.
