The Kurfürst-Balduin-Gymnasium in Münstermaifeld is a state secondary school, sponsored by the Mayen-Koblenz district in Rhineland-Palatinate .

history

It was founded in 1923 as the " German High School in Construction ". The pre-existing seminary school , a technical college for elementary school teacher training from 1878, is not dealt with here, as it did not aim to obtain a general university entrance qualification . The first Abitur took place in 1929 . After a short break, 22 years after it was founded, school operations began again in autumn 1945. The operation as a full-time high school takes place from 1980.

Since 2002, the school has been one of the first schools in Rhineland-Palatinate to be part of the MINT-EC association and is one of currently twelve Mint Excellence Centers in Rhineland-Palatinate. In order to promote the students in general and in the natural sciences elective , the hourly rate for mathematics and natural sciences has been increased. At the nationwide Siemens Award for MINT-EC high schools, which is held every two years, the Kurfürst-Balduin-Gymnasium took seventh place in 2004 and fourth place in 2006. In addition, there are special sporting achievements in the field of rowing, basketball and football, numerous concerts by the big band, choirs and the liturgy group as well as theater performances by the Theater AG.

The school was given permission by ministerial decree to bear the name Kurfürst-Balduin- Schule in 1926, at that time still as the " State German High School in Construction " . When it was converted into a full-time high school in 1980, the name “Kurfürst-Balduin-Gymnasium” was retained. The namesake Elector Baldwin of Luxembourg , brother of Emperor Henry VII , completed the “Minster on the Maifeld” and built the city on the border with Kurköln into a mighty bulwark.

School music

The school has choirs. These include the lower school choir and the upper school choir, where the students have the opportunity to develop and present their voices. Regular rehearsals prepare for either a summer concert or a Christmas concert, in which the two choirs act together. In addition, the school has a BigBand, which gives a concert once a year, in which the skills of the individual active students are demonstrated both vocally and instrumentally. All musical groups prepare for these events with intense readiness.

School partnerships

The Kurfürst-Balduin-Gymnasium maintains regular student exchanges and contacts with the partner school in Sedan. The school's Rwanda AG participates in the establishment of the St. Aloys / Aspek Institute in Rwanda with regular activities as part of the cooperation between the state of Rhineland-Palatinate and the African one Country.
