Kurt August Koelsch

Kurt August Koelsch (born March 9, 1910 in Elberfeld , † October 25, 1984 in Magdeburg ) was a German internist . He was considered one of the leading gastroenterologists in Germany.

Life

Koelsch passed his Abitur in 1928 at the Humanist High School in Berlin . He then studied at the Humboldt University of Berlin medicine . After the state examination in 1934, the doctorate followed in 1936 with a thesis on callus formation . He then worked as an assistant at the Berlin-Friedrichshain Medical Clinic and then moved to the Berlin-Spandau Municipal Hospital , where he became a senior physician in 1938 and a specialist in internal medicine in 1939 . During the Second World War he served in the Air Force .

From 1945 to 1947 he had his own practice in Magdeburg and was then head of the Pfeiffer Foundation Magdeburg- Cracau . At least around 1950 he lived at 22 Seestrasse in Cracau. 1952 followed his habilitation at the Medical Academy Magdeburg , where he became a full-time professor from 1962. From 1955 to 1975 he was also head of the medical clinic at the Magdeburg-Altstadt hospital .

Koelsch "has made great contributions to the introduction of gastroenterological examination procedures, especially endoscopy " and was accordingly also honored as Honored Doctor of the People . In addition to his medical work, he was also the re-founder of the Medical Society of Magdeburg .

Honors

In 1974 he was elected a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina .
