Kurt Degener

Kurt Degener (born November 20, 1902 in Grohnde ; † May 27, 1978 in Bissendorf ) was an Evangelical Lutheran clergyman and regional superintendent of the Osnabrück district of the Evangelical Lutheran regional church of Hanover .

Life

Degener was the son of a pastor and later a school councilor. He studied theology in Tübingen , Berlin and Göttingen , was a ministerial candidate in Loccum , and after his ordination (1930) became a pastor in Heinsen. In 1936 he received a pastor's position at the St. Michaelis Church in Hildesheim . He was dedicated to the Lutheran diaspora and church youth work and was an active member of the Confessing Church during the Nazi era . In 1949 he became superintendent of the Hildesheim church district. Degener played a decisive role in the church reconstruction of the city and the church district after the Second World War. He was a co-founder of the Evangelical Church Construction Hut and played a key role in relocating the preachers' seminars from Erichsburg to Hildesheim. From 1956 until his retirement in 1970 he was state superintendent in Osnabrück.
