The Rifugio Francesco Gonella (sometimes also Rifugio del Dôme ) is a refuge in the Aosta Valley in the Graian Alps within the Mont Blanc group . It is located at an altitude of 3,071 m in the Val Veny within the municipality of Courmayeur near the Ghiacciaio del Dôme glacier. The mountain hut is on the normal Italian route to Mont Blanc .
history
The Rifugio Francesco Gonella was built in 1962. It is dedicated to the Turin mountaineer Francesco Gonella . An earlier hut was built in 1891 and is still used as winter storage.
From 2007 to 2011 the hut from 1962 was replaced by a new building.
rise
The hike starts at the parking lot of La Visaille / Plan Lognan ( 1670 m ). First you follow the road towards Plan Combal ( 1990 m ). Lake Miage is very close by. Today the hut access number S15 leads over the Ghiacciaio del Miage to the hut at 3,071 m .
At around 2500 m , the Ghiacciaio del Dôme (French: Glacier du Dôme ) , created at the Dôme du Goûter , flows into the Miagegletscher, at around 2400 m it is reached by the Ghiacciaio del Monte Bianco (French: Glacier du Mont Blanc ), which emerges from the southwestern slopes of Mont Blanc is fed.
At an altitude of 2650 m , you finally leave the Miage Glacier and climb up rock and meadow to the hut.
The entire route from the parking lot at La Visaille to the Rifugio Francesco Gonella, which is quite difficult, takes about 5½ hours.

- Transition to the Refuge Durier ( 3349 m ) over the Col de Miage ( 3356 m ).
