history

The origin of the company was in Nordhausen . In 1932, at the time of the global economic crisis , the businessman Kurt König founded a construction equipment business. At the beginning of the Second World War, König acquired the Gerlach Werke, a steel production company, since it was not possible to establish a new company at the time. Branches in Breslau , Munich , Mannheim and Hagen followed by 1939 . Immediately after the end of the war in 1945, the company was relocated to Einbeck and the foundation stone was laid for the Kurt König Baumaschinen GmbH, which exists today. The post-war years were characterized by reconstruction and the economic miracle, and in 1962 Kurt König founded the Gerlach Werke as an independent company. As a result, the trading company continued to develop vigorously and grew steadily. In 1976, the company founder died unexpectedly. His wife Ilse König, who had played a leading role since the founding years, took over the management of the company. As a result, their son and economist Wolfgang König became managing director of the Gerlach works. After German reunification , the company reactivated old customer contacts and set up branches in the new federal states within a very short time, which complement the business area in central Germany. Today, in addition to the headquarters in Einbeck, there are locations in Göttingen , Wolfsburg , Braunschweig , Hanover , Gießen , Hildesheim , Kassel , Magdeburg , Nordhausen and Sangerhausen . In 1999 a subsidiary was founded in Poland , 2004 in Latvia and 2005 in Lithuania . On July 18, 2016, Kurt Alexander König, the founder's grandson, took over management of the company from his grandmother.
