Kurt Lissmann

Kurt Lissmann (born September 29, 1902 in Elberfeld as Jan Friedrich Lißmann ; † May 4, 1983 in Wuppertal - Vohwinkel ) was a German composer and choir director .

Life

Lissmann graduated from school in 1918 with secondary school leaving certificate. At the age of 17 he already appeared as a conductor with his own chamber orchestra. After completing his commercial training with the title of Höhere Handelsschule, he began studying music three years later with Hermann Inderau and Wilhelm Wiltberger . Lissmann later got to know the organist, pianist and composer Hubert Pfeiffer .

Liessmann wrote lively, often humorous light music and art songs with piano accompaniment and serious spiritual choruses and cantatas with orchestra . Some of his pieces have become folk songs . He created more than 350 works in a wide variety of styles. Due to his professional experience as a choir director, he was able to harmonize voices and orchestra and knew what is possible in a performance.

Artists like Heino , Günter Wewel , Stefanie Hertel , Rudolf Schock and Andrea Jürgens interpreted his songs as well as the Tölzer Boys Choir and The Westphalian Nightingales . He is considered one of the most frequently performed German composers.

Awards

For his life's work, Lissmann received various awards. These include the Conradin Kreutzer badge and the Federal Cross of Merit Lissmann is an honorary member of the Association of German Professional Choir Directors .
