Kurt Meier (diplomat)

Kurt Meier (born June 4, 1930 in Torgelow ) is a former German diplomat . He was the GDR's ambassador to Pakistan and Cyprus .

Life

After 1945 Meier initially worked in local administrative bodies. In 1951 he joined the diplomatic service of the GDR. He studied foreign policy and economics and worked at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the GDR (MfAA). From 1968 to 1970 he was press attaché at the GDR trade agency in Vienna and then back to the MfAA as a sector manager. From 1975 to 1978 he worked as counselor in Athens and from 1978 to 1980 as counselor in Helsinki . From June 1980 to August 1984 he was ambassador of the GDR in Islamabad and from August 12, 1986 to 1990 ambassador to Nicosia .

Meier was a member of the SED .
