Kurt Schein
Kurt Schein (born December 12, 1930 in Vienna ; † February 24, 1972 ) was an Austrian cyclist and national champion in cycling .
Athletic career
Schein won a total of 22 titles as Austrian national champion in his career . He was mainly active as a train driver, but also successfully contested criteria on the road . He won his national titles in the sprint , 1000-meter time trial , tandem race , individual pursuit and team pursuit disciplines . 1958 was his most successful year when he was five times winner of the Austrian state championships on the track. He won his first title in 1953, the last in 1966. In 1956 he competed for Austria at the Summer Olympic Games in Melbourneand finished there in 11th place in the 1000 meter time trial. He also denied the team pursuit, in which the team from Austria could not place. He was also used in the Olympic road race, but dropped out of the race prematurely. In 1960 he also took part in the games in Rome . He started there in the team pursuit.
Honors
A Kurt Schein memorial race was held in his home country for several years.
