Kurt Schrimm (born June 29, 1949 in Stuttgart ) is a German public prosecutor and from September 2000 to September 2015 was the head of the central office of the state justice administrations for the investigation of Nazi crimes in Ludwigsburg .

Life

After studying law, Schrimm entered the higher judicial service of the state of Baden-Württemberg on August 1, 1979. He worked as a court assessor at the regional court and the Stuttgart public prosecutor's office, and from 1982 as a public prosecutor. In 1986 he was assigned the task of the responsible public prosecutor for investigative proceedings for murder in connection with violent National Socialist crimes for the entire district of Stuttgart Higher Regional Court . He investigated the SS-Oberscharführer Josef Schwammberger, arrested in 1987 and sentenced to life imprisonment in 1992, and in 1988 also against Friedrich Engel, who was described in the international media as the "butcher of Genoa" . In 1998 Schrimm was appointed senior public prosecutor and from the end of September 2000 to the end of September 2015, as Willi Dessen's successor, he was in charge of the central office of the state justice administrations for the investigation of National Socialist crimes in Ludwigsburg. In 2009 he was promoted to Chief Public Prosecutor . Schrimm's successor was Jens Rommel in October 2015 .

On April 6, 2013, Schrimm, as head of the central office, announced that his authority would initiate preliminary investigations against 50 former overseers at the Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp . The allegation is an accessory to murder. Since the verdict against John Demjanjuk , who was a security guard at the Sobibor extermination camp , he thinks it is promising to bring trials against concentration camp guards. This also applies in the event that no witness statements are available for direct involvement in the crime.

In 2016, Schrimm was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg .

Kurt Schrimm is married and has two grown children.
