Kurt R. Stein (born June 30, 1970 in Madison , Wisconsin ) is a retired American ski jumper .
Career
Stein made his debut in the Ski Jumping World Cup on December 30, 1988 at the opening event for the Four Hills Tournament 1988/89 in Oberstdorf . However, during the entire tour he did not get a top placement. After he achieved the best individual result of the tour with 82nd place in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , he only finished 80th in the overall ranking.
At the following Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 1989 , he jumped from the large hill to 71 and 82.5 meters and thus reached rank 62. From the normal hill he jumped to 75.5 meters, which he eliminated after round one as 53rd. Together with Mark Konopacke , Ted Langlois and Mike Holland he was able to achieve 13th place in the team competition.
In the following World Cup competitions in 1989, Stein still did not get any points. In January 1990 he achieved the best individual result of his World Cup career with 35th place in Zakopane . At the following World Ski Flying Championships in 1990 in Vikersund , Stein flew to 53rd place. After he remained without points, Stein got out of the World Cup in December 1990 and switched to the newly created ski jumping Continental Cup for the 1991/92 season . However, he could not assert himself there either and remained without any points.
In December 1992 he came back to the senior national team for two World Cup competitions in Falun and Ruhpolding , but again missed a good placement and only ended up beyond the top 50.
He played his last international tournament at the age of 23 when he started at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer . There he competed jumping from the large hill and after jumps on 85.5 and 89.5 ended up in 11th place.
Stein has been a coach at Blackhawk Ski Club in his hometown of Madison since the end of his career .
