Otto Alfred Kurt Vorkauf (born May 30, 1898 in Halle (Saale) ; † July 4, 1977 in Strausberg ) was a football coach in the GDR and won the GDR Cup in 1950 with Stahl Thale and 1954 with Vorwärts Berlin .
After the Second World War, Vorkauf began his coaching work with the youth footballers of the ZSG Halle , with whom he became junior champion in the east zone and cup winner in 1949. In addition, he was hired by the Soviet garrison in Halle as a football coach for the soldiers stationed there. On January 1, 1950, he became a volunteer coach at the upper division Eintracht "Hans Wendler" Stendal , but was replaced after only two months. He was then appointed regional trainer for Saxony-Anhalt . At the same time he worked at Stahl Thale as a coach and won the GDR soccer cup with the team in 1950 . Then trained first the BSG Melsa Halle and then until November 1952 the Berlin league team of Einheit Pankow . He could not save the team, which had only received a place in the league for the 1951/52 season due to political influence, from relegation. However, Vorkauf and his team were in the final of the GDR soccer cup on September 14, 1952 , which the Pankower lost 3-0 to SG VP Dresden.
From December 1952 to May 1953, Vorkauf was employed at the central sports school of the paramilitary sports association Vorwärts in Potsdam . When SV Vorwärts relocated its top football club from Leipzig to East Berlin in the summer of 1953 , in June 1953, Vorauf took over the team now known as SV Vorwärts KVP Berlin , which had to play in the second-rate GDR league after the Leipzig predecessor had been relegated . He not only succeeded in the immediate rise as a sovereign relay winner, but he led the team, now renamed ZSK Vorwärts Berlin, to victory in the GDR Cup. In the cup final on July 3, 1954 in Dresden, the second division side surprisingly defeated the upper division Motor Zwickau 2-1. Although the promoted team had reached seventh place after the first half of the 1954/55 season, Vorkauf was replaced at the end of 1954 and relegated to assistant coach. He remained in this post until March 1962.
From 1953 to 1955, Vorkauf was a member of the coaching council of the GDR national soccer team . On May 11, 1955, he acted together with Hanne Sobeck as coach of an overall Berlin soccer team in the city game against the city team of Prague, which the Berliners won 1-0.
