Kurt Lessen

Kurt Lessen , also Kurt von Lessen , actually Siegfried von Lützow (born February 27, 1877 in Vienna , † February 12, 1960 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian actor and writer.

Life

Kurt Lessen was the son of Karl von Lützow (1832-1897), professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. At his father's request, he completed an officer training course. However, he said goodbye to the military early on and went to the stage. He received engagements in Brno , Olomouc , Opava and Pressburg . From 1905 he worked at the Theater in der Josefstadt under Josef Jarno . Lessen appeared as a cabaret artist in Hell and in Chat Noir   , he took on operetta roles in the Theater an der Wien , in the Kammerspiele and on the Neue Wiener Bühne . From 1925 to 1945 he worked at the Deutsches Volkstheater , from 1938 also as a director. Kurt Lessen developed his repertoire from bon vivant and comedian to character actor , he was particularly successful in folk plays .

At the Salzburg Festival in 1935 and 1936 he played Death in Jedermann . As a librettist he worked with Alexander Steinbrecher (1910–1982), among others , with whom he wrote the Singspiel in 1940 in four pictures Brilliant from Vienna .
