On March 24, 1779, the Counts of Löwenstein-Wertheim approved the construction of an iron hammer in the Spessart , the first operators were the brothers Tobias and Gottlieb Wenzel from Löwenstein . In the Haseltal near Hasloch the brothers found a suitable place to set up a hammer forge . The oak trunks required to set up the forge were supplied by the Michelrieth Forestry Office and the communities of Hasloch and Hasselberg . As early as 1786, the iron merchant and Wertheim citizen Friedrich Eberhard Ludwig Greineisen took over the iron hammer for 3,800 guilders . 14 years later, on December 12, 1800, the Eisenhammer became the property of the brothers Johann Georg and Johann Friedrich Kurtz from Michelstadt, based on a hereditary contract with the Counts of Löwenstein-Wertheim. In 1807 Johann Georg Kurtz became the sole owner of the iron hammer, and he bought the other half from his brother Johann Friedrich Kurtz for 4,400 guilders. In 1830 Johann Georg Kurtz handed the iron hammer over to his eldest son Johann Philipp. At the time there were buildings next to the iron hammer: an outbuilding, stables, a wash house and a coal smelter, four years later a residential building was added.

From iron smith to foundryman

In 1850 the Kurtz family became the unrestricted owners of the iron hammer. In the same year Johann Philipp Kurtz bought a piece of the Heiligenwiese in Hasloch in order to build an iron foundry with a metalworking workshop. A year later he submitted an application for the installation of a rotating mechanism and coupling furnace - the coupling or cupola furnace was the heart of the foundry as a device for melting metal. The incorporation of a gray foundry in 1852 and the construction of a machine factory in 1860 expanded the hammer forge, mainly cast parts for agricultural machines, railways and bridge construction were manufactured.

Ersa

The company Ersa GmbH in Wertheim , which was independent until 1993, goes back to the "First special factory for electric soldering irons" founded by Ernst Sachs in Berlin in 1921 . Ernst Sachs produced the electric soldering iron he had invented there . The company in Wertheim is still concerned with soldering technologies for electronics production and, in addition to hand soldering irons, has also developed soldering machines, soldering stations, inspection systems and solder paste printers .
