Cutterpulling is a fringe sport as well as a sub-discipline of the maritime all-around competition , in which a team of 10 (formerly also 6) people and a helmsman pulls a cutter (a dinghy of larger ships) over a set distance (rows). The rowers sit in pairs next to each other in the so-called throws on the oars . The helmsman ensures the right course and the motivation of the crew. To ensure uniform rowing motion to ensure the rowers on both oriented in front of the helmsman seated batters .

history

Starting from training units of the navy and merchant shipping , competitions between seaman's schools , seafaring schools and sea sport clubs, the tradition of nautical comradeships and the interest of private teams, cutterpulling has developed as a sport in various locations in Germany and Europe since around 1985.

  • Warnemünde: "Cutter race of the Warnemünde Seafaring School" - traditionally at the beginning of October

  • Plon : Kutterpullen is a mandatory part of the officer training at Ploen Marine NCO School of the German Navy, which is also year-round home to a strong competitive team. Smaller events are therefore often held on Lake Plön .
  • Flensburg : at the Mürwik Naval School

The short distance of 1000 meters is also known as a cutter race and takes about six minutes. On the other hand, the distance over 10,000 meters is regarded as the premier class in cutter rowing.
