Kyrill Kurtew

Kyrill Stefan Nikola Kurtew ( Bulgarian Кирил Куртев ; born July 18, 1891 in Driptschewo , Charmanli , Chaskovo Oblast , Bulgaria ; † March 9, 1971 in Kuklen ) was a Bulgarian clergyman and Apostolic Exarch of Sofia .

Life

Cyril Kurtew received on 8 September 1913 by Archbishop Mikhail Mirow the Diakonen- and on 1 June the following year by the Apostolic Vicar of Thrace, Michail Petkov , the ordination in the Bulgarian Catholic Church .

Pope Pius XI appointed him on July 31, 1926 as the first Apostolic Exarch of Sofia and Titular Bishop of Briula . He was ordained episcopate on December 5th of the same year by the Melkite Bishop of Sidon , Atanase Khoriaty BS . Co -consecrator was the Italian-Albanian bishop of Lungro , Giovanni Mele . The inauguration took place on February 6 of the following year.

On May 30, 1941, Pope Pius XII. his resignation. On November 1, 1942, he donated his episcopal ordination to his successor Ivan Dimitrov Garufalov CR , who was appointed one year later . On April 27, 1951 Kurtev was again appointed Apostolic Exarch of Sofia and replaced Garufalov, who died a little later.

Kyrill Kurtew took part in the second and fourth session of the Second Vatican Council as a council father.
