The Kyzyl-Art-Pass is a 4250 m high mountain pass on the Pamir Highway in the Transalai chain in the Pamir .
It is located on the border between the Central Asian republics of Kyrgyzstan in the north and Tajikistan in the south and connects the Kyrgyz province ( Oblast ) Osh with the autonomous province of Berg-Badakhshan in the extreme east of Tajikistan. The pass between these very sparsely populated areas is not very busy.
The pass is located about 50 km south of the Kyrgyz town of Sarytasch , on the section of the Pamir Highway from Kyrgyz Osh in the Ferghana Valley to Chorugh in Tajikistan , which was completed in 1932 . Coming from the north in the picturesque, wide Alai Valley between the Alai Mountains and the Transalai range of the Pamir on the upper reaches of the Kysylsuu , the ascent to the pass is quite flat. On the south side down into the high mountain desert valley Markansu , however, the route is relatively steep.
