László Cselőtei

László Cselőtei (born January 3, 1925 in Rákospalota , Budapest ; † February 29, 2012 in Alcsútdoboz , Fejér County ) was a Hungarian horticultural engineer , agricultural scientist and university lecturer , the dean and rector of the Agricultural University in Gödöllő (Gödöllői Agrártudományi) , politician and Member of the Hungarian Parliament .

Life

After attending the traditional Fasori Evangélikus Gimnázium , Cselőtei began studying agricultural sciences at the Agricultural University in Budapest in 1943 and was involved in the Magyar Egyetemisták és Főiskolások Szövetsége ( MEFESZ ), the association of university and college students. After completing his studies in 1947, he initially worked for the state railway company Magyar Államvasutak (MÁV) before he was an inspector at the national production cooperative in Baja between 1948 and 1951 and then production manager of the production cooperatives in southeast Hungary.

In 1954, Cselőtei was appointed adjunct professor at the Gödöllői Agrártudományi Egyetem (GATE), the agricultural college in Gödöllő, and was dean of the Faculty of Soil Culture there between 1960 and 1962 . In 1962 he took over a full professorship at GATE and taught there until his retirement in 1994. From 1978 to 1981 he was rector of GATE.

In 1964 he received the Academy of Sciences Prize . After becoming a corresponding member in 1970, he was elected a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (Magyar Tudományos Akadémia) in 1976 .

Between 1970 and 1990 Cselőtei was also a member of the Hungarian Parliament and represented the constituency of Aszód there .

In 1988 he was awarded the State Prize of the Presidential Council of the People's Republic of Hungary and in 1992 with an honorary doctorate from the University of Horticulture and Food Industry in Budapest (Kertészeti és Élelmiszeripari Egyetem) . In 1995 he was finally awarded the Hungarian Order of Merit (Magyar Köztársasági Érdemrend) and in 2005 the National Prize (Hazám-díj) .
