Leony Léonard Kweuke (born July 12, 1987 in Yaoundé ) is a Cameroonian football player . The striker plays an important role in the history of Turkish club Çaykur Rizespor , for which he was active from 2013 to 2018. With his 47 goals, he is the most successful first division shooter in the club's history.

Career

Kweuke came to eight missions for the Iranian first division club Esteghlal Tehran between March and May 2007 . He spent the following season at the Iranian second division club Steel Azin FC . In the summer of 2008 he received a contract with the Slovak club DAC Dunajská Streda , for which he scored eleven goals in 16 games in the first half of the 2008/09 season.

During the winter break of the 2008/09 season he was loaned by Eintracht Frankfurt to replace the long-term injured Ioannis Amanatidis for half a year. Frankfurt also had a purchase option, which was not drawn.

Energie Cottbus secured the services of the striker for the 2009/10 season . It was initially loaned for a year, but the club also has a purchase option. His first game for Energie Cottbus was on October 16, 2009 in the 1: 2 defeat against 1. FC Kaiserslautern , when he also scored his first goal for Cottbus.

After Energie Cottbus and DAC Dunajská Streda had not agreed on another loan, Kweuke switched to the Czech first division club Sparta Prague .

He scored his first goal for Sparta Prague on October 25, 2010 in a 2-1 defeat by Slovan Liberec . On May 8, 2013, he met with Sparta Prague in the semi-finals of the Czech Cup on FK Mladá Boleslav . Kweuke saw the red card for a serious foul in the 47th minute in which his opponent Radek Dosoudil broke his shin and was later suspended for twelve games.

For the 2013/14 season, Kweuke moved to Çaykur Rizespor . At this club he quickly established himself as a regular player and top performer. On the first day of the 2015/16 season , he caused a scandal. After his club was awarded a penalty in the 87th minute, he tore the ball out of the hand of the penalty taker Sercan Kaya , appointed by coach Hikmet Karaman , and scored the penalty himself despite an objection from Kaya and Karaman. After converting the penalty, Kweuke made Gestures provocative towards Karaman, which he returned. Kweuke was then prevented by his teammates from charging towards his own trainer. Despite this controversy, he spoke to Karaman and was continued by him. In the summer of 2017 he missed relegation to the Süper Lig with Rizespor and went to the 2nd Turkish league with the club. Here Rizespor became champion straight away and achieved direct promotion back to the Süper Lig, but because Kweuke injured himself during the season and could not find his way back to his old form, his contract was prematurely terminated in summer 2018 after mutual agreement with the club management. At Rizespor he advanced to become the most successful first division shooter in the club's history with 47 goals in 99 first division games.
