history

Railway house, used after 1990 as a replacement for the station building that was destroyed in the war

Löwenberg (Mark) was opened as a station for the Prussian State Railways with the completion of the first stage of the Berlin Northern Railway on July 10, 1877. In 1888 the branch to Templin was opened and in 1899 it was extended to Prenzlau .

Since 1896, a small train to Lindow (Mark) ran from a private train station, which was built next to the state train station, and was extended to Rheinsberg (Mark) in 1899 . In 1907 the Kleinbahn was converted into a branch line and extended to Flecken Zechlin in 1928 .

In 1983/84 the Berlin Northern Railway was electrified in the area of the station by the Deutsche Reichsbahn . In the course of this, a decentralized converter plant was built in Löwenberg (Mark) , which went into operation in December 1983 and ensured the supply of traction current to the section of the route for around 20 years . In 2011 the vacant building was sold to a private person and today it houses a private museum with exhibits from the Deutsche Reichsbahn and the former GDR.

From 2012 to 2013 extensive construction work took place on the Berlin Northern Railway. The station was expanded. The former station tunnel was completely filled in during the course of the work and replaced by a bridge. There is no elevator, so that access to some platforms is not wheelchair accessible. With federal and state funds, further modernization including barrier-free expansion of the station is planned over the next few years . By the end of 2018 [obsolete] , the barrier-free transition from track 2 to the central platform with tracks 1 and 3 should be made possible by installing two elevators.
