Lübeck Council 1625
The council of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck in 1625.
painting
The painter Hans von Hembsen narrated a meeting of the Lübeck council as a higher court from the year 1625 as accessories for an interior of the Lübeck town hall . The picture shows the structural condition of the present-day audience hall in Lübeck's town hall, which was later redesigned in the Rococo style. In the medallions at the corners are the portraits of the four mayors who were in office in 1625: top left Alexander Lüneburg (1560–1627), top right Johann Vinhagen (1564–1630), bottom left Lorenz Möller (1560–1634) and below right Heinrich Köhler (1576–1641) They had their seat. They had their seat in the hall on the left wall under the portrait of the emperor and the Lübeck double-headed eagle next to it. The other councilors lined up according to seniority on the bank. The Syndicii and secretaries sat with their backs to the rest of the room . In the foreground, among several citizens who are waiting for their concerns to be heard by the council, the abbess of the St. John's Monastery in Lübeck is the only woman present . Hembsen's painting is now in the St. Annen Museum Lübeck .
